Haringey Aquatics secured 14 medals at the 2017 Middlesex County Age Group Championships (13 and under); the highest number ever achieved in the club’s 70-year history.
Leading the way was Crouch End’s 13-year-old Max Green who dominated across all Freestyle events sweeping gold medals in the 400m, 200m, 100m and 50m events; Green also added gold in the 50 Breaststroke late in the event. “I am really pleased with these results, and couldn’t have done it without the support of coaches Paul Doyle (Head) and Nathan Joseph (Development) who have supported me all the way through.” Green also took four silvers in the 200m and 100m Individual Medley, 100m Breaststroke, 100m Backstroke and bronze in the 200m Breaststroke.
Other medal contributors included Crouch End’s Gareth Davies (age 12) who secured a brace of bronze medals in the 200m and 100m Butterfly.
Haringey’s youngest medallist and rising star, Tottenham-based Travis Kupczyk-Akomeah (age 11), took bronze in the 100m Butterfly and the 50m Freestyle, his first-ever counties, and is considered an emerging national talent.
Said Haringey Aquatic’s Development Coach Nathan Joseph, “This is our best start to the year at Counties for as long as I can remember, we did well across all strokes and disciplines. More swimmers qualifying, more finalists, more medals. I am proud of all the swimmers and their hard work. Haringey Aquatics encourages athletes to be disciplined, motivated, focused, to achieve; as a result, they are happy and succeeding.
